About us.

About us

Institute of W⚥men Social Workers.

The Institute is a youth led feminist organisation motivated by the desire for social justice. The Institute advocates and campaigns for women’s rights including reproductive rights, challenging norms that perpetuate sexual and gender-based violence.

The Institute’s ethos is based on a human rights approach with full respect for the diversity of the population. The Institute is premised on attending to the well-being of women and girls as essential to social and economic development worldwide, as reflected in the inclusion of promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women as Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Because women bear the world’s children and do the majority of child- and family-care related work in all societies, women must also have a say in how these issues can be addressed (United Nations, 2007) hence the Institute’s mandate. Our specific efforts include the delivery of:

  • Health and mental health care services.
  • Training programmes on key developmental issues.
  • Prevention and early intervention efforts addressing both interpersonal and community-based violence
